So I installed Ubuntu on my sister's old laptop as she gave it to me saying that the battery and AC adapter are broken. Well they are, but if it's plugged in, it works just fine if you don't go around moving the laptop. So I just installed Ubuntu on it, set up remote desktop connection and put it in the corner of my room. It sits over there just fine. I managed to connect to it just fine remotely from my Windows desktop and everything went smoothly. But the damn thing sometimes stops taking keystrokes remotely and locally. Reboot helps, but then the same problem returns even before taking a remote connection. Not to mention some applications don't open, menus lag like hell or don't open... And that's just the GUI. The keyring "feature" is a pain in the ass. I mean who wants an operating system that asks for the superuser password and the keyring password all the time. And why on earth isn't the default user an administrator by default? And why doesn't it work when you set the account as administrator? Oh and the Unity thing disappeared suddenly after a boot as if the computer had no graphical performance for it? Isn't Linux supposed to be lightweight? Oh and don't get me started on installing and configuring things. It's command line all the way...

I've used Ubuntu now for a week and had it installed last year as well for a couple of months. But it causes nothing but sorrow. So if someone comes to you saying "dude, Ubuntu rocks. It's free and it's just like Windows.", tell him/her to go f*** themself. Unless you're familiar with Linux/Ubuntu from years back or know the system, don't bother. Just stick with Windows as it will work as it is supposed, assuming that you've XP or preferably Win7. I know I'm not much to say Ubuntu sucks and I'm sure it works fine with some, but what the hell is that if it's not worth using for the basics even?!

However, I will take a few deep breaths and get back to that pile of sh**. Seriously. Stay out of Ubuntu unless you're a wiz with computers.

Aight, I got the new Windows beta on my computer and have had it for a while now. Surely I'm such a social butterfly online that I need to have MSN installed as well. But the thing with Win7 and Windows Live Messenger (aka MSN Messenger) is that since there's this superbar that works as the quick launch and taskbar, you don't really have the contact list at your hand. So when you click on the MSN icon in your superbar, it shows two windows: logged in thingy and the main contact list window. So I can't get to contact list right away by clicking the damn icon. Plus I could use the thing in the system tray really so it's out of sight and only the chats and the contact list come up with the superbar click.

So there's a workaround for this and it's pretty simple actually:
1. Head over to the start menu, find Windows Live Messenger
2. Right-click on the main application shortcut and select Properties
3. Pick the compatibility tab
4. Tick the first box available and pick Windows Vista

This will make the program work as it was in MS Vista. Now you get your beloved MSN icon to system tray and MSN works "normally" in the "superbar".
